Hi all, random post. I've been reading about microdosing.. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this and if it worked for them etc?

Self medicating with psychedelics is dangerous. I wouldn't fook about with my mental health that way. I'm sure someone will be along soon to say it's amazing but without being honest or aware of what's really going on in their lives to driving them to this.

Hi there - I’ve not micro dosed but I have had a fair bit of experience with psilocybin. There’s a great deal of research being done and I would think we are only a few years away from legalisation for medical use of ketamine, MDMA and psilocybin as results are looking good.

that said, doing it alone, particularly with pre existing MH issues can be very dangerous. There are countries where retreats are legalised and can be done under a controlled situation. Obviously results vary and no one can be promised a particular result. In the UK at present there are trials but for Ketamine as it is the only legalised psychedelic.

On a personal level, it has been transformative for me. I didn’t and don’t have any mental health issues though.

here are some links to studies

sorry must dash will post more links later!

Ketamine found effective in treatment-resistant depression

A new study finds ketamine as effective as electroconvulsive therapy (without its major side effects) for the treatment of nonpsychotic, treatment-resistant depression.

What's wrong with your mental health? And what have you tried so far?

PervOrNoPerv · 18/04/2024 11:08

Hi @hk1993x How many ECT sessions do you have remaining? You really would be better to try to take care of yourself until they have finished and try not to confuse the picture by looking at other
options at the moment xx

I microdose psilocybin (mushrooms). I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and CPTSD around 18 years ago. Up until Jan last year when I had a full breakdown resulting in a three month inpatient stay, these conditions were relatively well managed with medication and very few episodes.

I've been microdosing now for around three months. No matter what combination of medication they tried, my depression just hadn't lifted and I was so anxious that I was housebound and unable to travel in the car etc.

Since I've been microdosing I've got my life back in a way I couldn't have imagined. My psych was incredibly wary of me trying microdosing and rightly so said they couldn't stand over my choice but agreed to have more regular appointments with me since I started it to monitor for any signs of psychosis returning.

I wouldn't jump into it blindly, it's not without its risks and you need to really research every credible piece of information you can find.

I don't regret starting it. I haven't had a panic attack since I started, my brain fog has lifted, my memory has improved and I've actually been able to leave my house to go and do things for the first time in nearly 18 months.

I haven't had any negative effects. At the correct dose you shouldn't feel any remotely "trippy" sensations. The ideal dose is sub perceptual.

It's with watching "How to change your mind" on Netflix. There's a lot of research to show that microdosing and mushrooms have been hugely beneficial for treatment resistant depression and also in improving quality of life in cancer patients.

I also second PP though in that adding microdosing into the equation while you're having ECT would be quite risky

Thanks all. Finished my 6th and last ECT session today and have been prescribed Lamotrigine to take alongside my fluxoetine. Have put the microdosing on hold just now to see how I go with this new medication combination.

Thank you again for all your replies x

I was on Lamotrigine for years (400mg) and it worked really well for me for a long time. Hopefully you have similar success!
