Positive Sertraline

I've been on Sertraline for around 8 weeks now and I'm really seeing the improvements. I'm 27 and suffered with anxiety pretty much my whole life as a child / teen and adult due to a lot of different things, I thought it's just the way I was. I thought how I'd panic and worry about things was normal and just my personality. In the last 14 months, me and dh have gone through 4 miscarriages, it really broke me down. I had a bit of a breakdown and went to the gp where he prescribed me 50mg of Sertraline. And wow, my brain is clear. It really is amazing how those little tablets can help. My brain was constantly 100 miles an hour and now it's just relaxed. Things that worry me still worry me but not in the way it used to, I can't describe it. It's like something has been switched off in my brain. I can sleep without voices in my head going over and over, I feel happier, more energetic and ready for the days ahead.

Has Sertraline been positive for anyone else? I know some people don't get on with it (the first 2 weeks I was very nauseous and had insomnia but I'm glad I stuck it out now)

That sounds great. I'm at a point in life where I'm not coping and I tried Sertraline before but had bad headaches. Maybe I need to re-try them. I thought I would be ok without anti-depressants but I can't see a way through this.
My DF started on Sertraline when we lost DM and has been on them for 7 years. He tried to stop but had major side effects so the gp said stay on them.
I'm glad they work well for you. It gives me some hope.

Sertraline - pretty much a life-saver for me.

I took my first Setraline last night after wrestling with the decision for years.

I feel really wary today, like I’m looking for symptoms and attributing everything to the tablet 😂

Your experience just makes me want to push on though. So glad it’s worked so well for you!

Sertraline has the same positive effect on me - I didn't realise how busy and noisy my mind was until I started taking sertraline and it kicked in.
I can remember exactly where I was when I suddenly realised my mind was quiet and I wasn't thinking or worrying about multiple different things, I was just there in the moment. It was a strange realisation of how noisy my mind had been.

I've been taking it for approaching two years now

That's great to hear. My mind is the same, jumping all over the place. I can't find any calm and feel i'm losing the plot. I'm worried about the side-effects of taking it though. Did you have any?

My ds has been on sertraline for nearly 6 months now. Severe ocd (intrusive thoughts).

It's been life changing - he can live his life now and so can the rest of us. It's got better the longer he's been on it, so you have to be patient.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/04/2024 20:33

It really changed my life for sure. Had terrible side effects at first but then they settled down and it really helps. I would not be working in my (senior, stressful) job full time if it wasn’t for Sertraline and I can’t afford not to.

Hey ☺️

sorry, I know this thread hasn’t been active for a little while but I’m seeking some reassurance. I’m on day 22 now, and don’t really feel much better? After 2 weeks of loss of appetite, headache and dry mouth I thought the side affects have gone but I’m feeling so sick again, and more anxious? I was wondering how long it was until you felt better? Hoping I start to stabilise soon and feel better. Xx

ManchesterLu · 11/06/2024 14:22

I've been on 50mg for almost 4 years now, and I'm a completely different person. I hope I can stay on it for life, it's saved me.

SCeee · 11/06/2024 20:15

@ManchesterLu im so glad this has helped you 🥰 can you remember how long it took to feel the full effects? I’m just needing some reassurance. I feel I’ve got backwards at day 22 as nausea has returned, and anxiety is heightened
