Do you experience this?

If so how does it feel for you & is it down to anxiety?

2 days ago I took a bad panic attack , as I was coming down the from panic attack I got a strange cold shiver buzzing sensation in my head it made me panic even more , I got the sensation yesterday and today too, I have anxiety anyways but recently its bad, is this a brain zap? I'm hoping it's only down to anxiety it's scaring me so much my health anxiety is telling me I have a brain tumour.

It sounds like anxiety saying it first happened during a panic attack. I first started taking propranolol 3 days ago but I doubt this is related ?

This has resulted me in a huge panic attack because I'm terrified there's something wrong with me

No, that is not unusual. Also Propranolol is a Beta blocker and should be helping with that. I do understand what you mean by the 'brain zap' its not anything to be concerned about physically but you should tell you doctor any symptoms you have whether you think them trivial or not. I have personally been on the same drug in the past.

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:06

I have never heard it described as 'brain zap' but I like it :) perfectly describes it!

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:11

Sorry, I didn't meant to trivialise it. I do remember exactly how that felt and it is unpleasant and happens randomly (or at least it did to me) but all I can say is that you aren't in any physical danger from it and understand it is just the meds.

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:13

Its a strange thing... the meds they put you on to help with anxiety have side effects of anxiety and it might not work for you.

Yes, I have them OP, horrible sensation and at their worst when I’m anxious

Blueberryancakes · 11/04/2024 22:18

Does it feel like an electric crackle on your forehead?

I’ve experienced this

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:19

I have only had them while on meds

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:20

I called it 'fuzzy head' but I assume we mean the same thing

JustAnotherSteve · 11/04/2024 22:23

for the OP I need to press that it is not a thing to worry about. I know it is unpleasant and you should tell your GP but just know its not a physical issue with your brain or anything. x

Blueberryancakes · 11/04/2024 22:24

Is it painful? My face crackles were but only lasted a split second

dr don’t give me any answers

Did you find out about this? I get like a vibrating brain feeling, like I can physically feel my brain shaking for a few seconds, brain shake, like an electric shock. Started after a very stressful year at uni and I am still getting them a year on. Sometimes when I get them I go all dizzy for a few seconds. I'm not on any meds or anything.

CrumbleintheJungle · 13/10/2024 00:14

I had them while coming off Sertraline. I think they'll be related to your medication but you could mention it to the GP and see what they say. It's probably common. If you can't tolerate the side effects, maybe you could try a different medication, or the brain zaps might go away after the first week or two.

Edit: aaargh, sorry I didn't realise that this is an old post!

Hi, just to update, I haven't had them for months now, I'm on the summer break from uni so I've just put it down to stress.
