Think I may have BPD

Roodedado · 03/04/2024 15:24

Finding it extremely hard to regulate my emotions. I make something small into a massive ordeal. In particular with my DP. Overanalysing things he says and does.
Been like this in past friendships and with family also. Now these relationships have all deteriorated completely.

What can I do next?

BPD is far more complicated than being unable to regulate emotions.
What else makes you think you have BPD?

Gettingbysomehow · 03/04/2024 15:32

That's what I thought I had, I went to see a proper psychiatrist who diagnosed me with complex PTSD.
Don't diagnose yourself, get it done by a professional.
You can then deal with what you have and read up about it. A proper diagnosis has made my life altogether better.

Good advice

@NCgoingdry i have looked up 9 common symptoms and I relate to every single one.
From fear of abandonment to anger.
I don’t want it to be this. God no!

I am on a waiting list to get tested for ADHD.

Please don't google Diagnose yourself.

Roodedado · 03/04/2024 15:38

Thank you @Gettingbysomehow.
I am on a waiting list to see a psychiatrist. A long one at that. I will maybe go private if my funds allow me. Getting quite desperate.

@MeMyCatsAndMyBooks Guilty of this.

Like others have said, don't diagnose yourself. BPD has a huge overlap of symptoms with other conditions, and in many cases is mistakenly diagnosed when it is actually ASD.

DBT is the gold standard treatment for BPD, and it is something you can start to do yourself using resources online.

Look up autism and how it is often miss diagnosed in women as BPD

Everyone can relate to most of the symptoms. It's only BPD when those symptoms are so extreme and pervasive that they affect your everyday functioning.

I agree with this. I was on a psych ward with two young women with BPD. They were lovely but completely out of control.

Months later and no further forward really. It's getting to the point now it's actually cripplingly my life.
I'm obsessively looking up symptoms and I do relate to every single one.

Looking up symptoms is the worse thing you can do. Leave Dr Google alone.

Sorry to hear this OP, the NHS MH services are so dire these days.
You mentioned you could possibly go private as that would be quicker?

Roodedado · 07/11/2024 19:35

I'm on a waiting list to get tested for ADHD as 2.5 years. That was my initial thought of what I had. Apart from depression and anxiety.
I don't want to have BPD. But I'm nearly certain its that!
Private isn't an option at the moment anymore sadly. I feel very lost
