Propranolol?

I'm going through a very stressful time at work and have been referred to OH/put on reduced duties for a while. As part of this I've been advised to see my GP about possible medication. I have longstanding MH issues and have tried a few anti depressants which made me worse.

The issue is my anxiety is through the roof at the moment, I spend all my days off worrying about work and other things.. and when I'm at work I'm really struggling.

I've been prescribed prop before but was too scared to take it in case I'd have a heart attack! But I may ask for some again at a very low dose. How does it make you feel? When I'm anxious at work I do feel my blood pressure rise, get a headache and my heart rate increases slightly, but otherwise it's more mental than physical anxiety. Is there anything that can help with the mental anxiety symptoms rather than the physical?

I'm at my wits end. Sertraline made me go off the rails - almost ruined my life on that drug. I almost jumped off the top of a car park on citalopram (sorry for the details there) it made complete sense at the time and as soon as I stopped taking it the suicidal thoughts disappeared. I'm terrified to try another AD.

Propranolol isn't an antidepressant won't build up in your system. It will take the edge off a stressful day.

As PP said, it's definitely not an AD. It's for anxiety...as it blocks adrenaline. My doctor described it as stopping the dominoes of anxiety. Your body simply cannot react in the same way PHYSICALLY as it did previously for anxiety.

Personally, they have been incredible for me and I take a daily slow release and have done for years.

They will not alter your brain chemistry in any way.

Works for me for work stress. I take one in the morning and I'm a lot more calm throughout the day.
