I’m ringing gp this is too much I’ve had post partum anxiety now for months like feeling like I’m going to pass out coming over dizzy can’t breathe etc I’ve got herbal rescue remedies there not cutting it!

Does anyone else have these crippling anxiety attacks? Im reading the tips online but there not realistic for me at all as I’m coming over that bad I can’t even think let alone start breathing techniques etc!

Would I look like a twat requesting this as a emergency appointment? I just took the baby up the shop in the pram and thought I was going to drop enough is enough 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Caved? That is usually used when you do/give in to something negative isn't it? You have finally recognised that you are suffering and need support. That's a good positive action you took.

You haven’t caved at all, as pp, you’re taking control of a situation- that’s to be applauded! Hope you get an emergency appointment!

Lavender14 · 19/02/2024 12:23

You're going the right thing op! Ppa is completely normal, but that doesn't mean you need to live with it! Well done you for taking action, you deserve to be able to enjoy your time with your wee baby and do the things you need to do without anxiety making it harder than it should be.

I had ppa and I did find the breathing etc helpful but only when I was doing it regularly and in line with exercise, eating and trying to sleep as well as I could with a wee baby. I found my health visitor a good support and talking about it really helped so i did some counselling as well. It may be that you need some medication to get you past the worst of it while you rebuild your resilience and figure out what things are actually helpful to you in the long term. Asking for help and being honest about how you're feeling can be so daunting so well done you. If the gp won't see you today then try again tomorrow and ring your hv in the meantime. Don't let it go, you deserve support with this just like you would with any other post partum physical symptom.

Thanks all mentally I feel better even writing on here I need a dr! It’s simple I’m trying everything I can’t afford to feel like this as a mum of 6! Two non verbal asd adhd kids and my baby was diagnosed as deaf! I’ve spent months in and out of audiology not to mention the senco appointments the speech and language therapy social services to see how/if they could help but it only made my anxiety worse despite a fantastic assessment!

Also could I request a telephone appointment? As the kids finish at 3 dh doesn’t get home until late? Taking all 3 little ones isn’t a option!

Make sure you get your iron tested as lightheadedness can be caused by anaemia or even inadequate iron stores (ferritin).

Babsexxx · 19/02/2024 14:05

Thanks all I’ve sent a appointment through the online service I don’t think it’s to do with anemia as I’m only getting symptoms under stress or I need to go somewhere or I have appointment to attend etc.

I would say it should depend on whether you would prefer an appointment in person or not. Would your dh be able to take some time so he can be at home with your wee ones while you can go to your appointment by yourself? I only ask because it's hard enough sometimes getting your point across never mind when you've wee ones needing things from you at the same time?

I’ve got a telephone appointment for Tuesday I mentally feel better just for knowing I have this appointment! And it’s heading in the right direction. Thanks all another horrible wobbly school run this morning I honestly don’t know how I’m doing them they are that bad but I am! Xx
