Development & Learning at work..

I’ve been in the same job for 9 years and am not particularly bothered about advancing any higher but in my 1:1s the Manager is always talking about development and learning. I do have struggles with my MH and am on medication which gets me out of bed and keeps me working.
She’s always asking me what I’d like to try, anything else I’d be interested in, etc. Honest answer = I’m busy enough as is an would just like to get on with the job. I’ve now been put forward to take then the minutes of the Safeguarding Meeting every two weeks. I know I can’t say ‘no’ as there are others that have been asked the minute other meetings.
Please be honest, am I being unfair not wanting to take on any new tasks or does anyone else feel like me?
The thought of new tasks slightly scares me too!

You're not being unfair at all. I'm like you, I can't be bothered with progression. Comfortable in my job and progression is not something I'm interested in. Yes the money may get better but I don't want the extra responsibilities or stress.

I explained this to my line manager a few times. It took a few times for her to understand that I appreciate her wanting me to progress as she likes my work ethic, and I appreciate that she sees potential, but I personally do not want to progress as I'm comfortable in my current position. I don't want the extra stress that comes with promotions.

I also mentioned if I have a change of heart then I'll let her know but until then I'm happy where I am.

I'm also happy with not progressing any further up the ladder. I struggle with my MH anyway and don't need the stress. Presently finding things challenging at work anyway after moving from a place I've worked at for 20 yrs to another place (same job/role). Lots of change last couple of years due to corporate takeover. Feeling a bit like a fish out of water.

@mamahg Im the same, yes the extra money would be nice but I just know I’d be destined for more stress. I’m just not up to it.

@Ilovedogs1 I’ve seriously considered leaving my place of work but worry about learning new procedures, etc. I too struggle with my MH and am only just keeping going as is!

Thanks both, I’m pleased I’m not the only one who feels this way.
