Was this a panic attack?

Help... a few times now recently as I've been either asleep or falling asleep, I've suddenly jolted awake with my heart absolutely racing and feeling like it's going to burst out of my body with the force of the pounding. I've also struggled to feel like I'm breathing enough air in. Struggling to even do the 'calming breathing' technique of breathing in for 4 and out for 6... Does this sound like a panic attack? I've never had one before.
Just for information, I'm perimenopausal and have been on HRT patches for the past 2 years and am now just separated from my husband, though we are still having to live together, so there is quite a lot of stress around me.

Sounds like it. Horrible aren't they?

Yes, really worrying and horrible... I've never experienced it before, I really feel for anyone who experiences them regularly 😕

I have these. Propanolol on repeat prescription is an absolute game changer.

It's the way they hit you out of nowhere. Hate them. They give me stomach aches too.

Not just the way they hit you out of nowhere but when your life is apparently going well with no major stress or anxiety.
