Evening everyone

Hoping to get some help. Started this medication 5 weeks ago, and I have already put on 1.5 stone. Madness. I’m not eatting any different from what I already had been previously.
Have tried one antidepressant a couple of years ago and it also put on a lot of weight. Doctor had reassured me this wouldn’t.
it’s getting me down even more.

Any advice

What dose are you on? I started on 5mg 4 weeks ago , weight hasn’t changed yet but am worried it might!

@Chickendipper2022 I began with 5mg for a couple of weeks then went to 10mg. My last one (Mirtazapine) done same and it took a long time to get it off.

Same here, but not so quickly. I told the doctor that having been the same weight all my life from teens to early forties, including getting back to same weight after having two children, I had put on 7lbs in a month. She just told me ADs don't increase weight. She was wrong. They do. They just do. Anecdotally i've heard this from a lot of people. I never lost the extra weight.

@ConcertaFirstTimer my doctor fobbed me off with same ‘they don’t increase weight’ even when it was very obvious it had. I don’t want to put on anymore, and I not vain either, but this weight is really getting me down. None of my clothes barely fit and I can’t afford new ones.

would love to know if there is such a thing as one which doesn’t effect it

I have issues with weight gain caused by my medication. Effexor led to a large increase. When I had to stop taking it I lost over 4 stone. My latest weight gainer is Mirtazapine - it leaves me hungry, particularly in the evenings and during the night.🙃

Been on escitilapram two weeks 5mg , I’m a swim teacher and a triathlete so you can imagine how much training I do and i have not adjusted my diet but in the time my weight increased by 5 pounds. So I’m coming straight off it and have purchased an ice bath to ease stress and anxiety levels instead! Cant be done with putting on weight like this it’s going to make me worse if I do. The tablets have helped me even early days I felt better but suddenly I feel down again that I have put on weight and I can’t have my self confidence knocked if it continued, such a pain they do this. Hope one day they bring one out that doesn’t cause weight gain . The doctors and physicians have no explanation as to why it happens which is a tad worrying as what else don’t they know about what we are taking into our bodies . Surely they must know what causes it as it seems rife on many peoples reviews it happens.
