DS 18 free of OCD

I wanted to share this because even if it helps just 1 person it will be worth it.
DS first started showing signs of OCD when he was in primary school. Over the years it got worse with him checking and counting which he was able to hide at first but then became impossible by his mid teens. He refused to see the GP or talk to anyone that I sought out that could help. At 18 he had to return from university as was trapped in his room all day carrying out his compulsions. At home it was no better and my husband and I watched helplessly as our lovely boy was in such a state carrying out his compulsions he could barely function. I researched for hours on the internet and in desperation looked into a possible link with the gut. I paid £400 for a stool test and it came back as abundance of a waterborne parasite in his gut. I didn’t tell him as I knew it would freak him out and I put him on a parasite cleanse. By the final week - week 3 he had many violent poos and felt quite ill as the parasites left his guts. Almost like a miracle his OCD has completely disappeared and he has had not 1 compulsions since. This may not be the answer for everyone who has this dreadful illness but like I said at the beginning, if it helps just 1 person it will be worth posting.

Thought I’d post an update as I know there are lots of sceptics out - I was one myself once.

It’s been over 6 months now and my son is completely free from OCD. He continues to take the supplement that the poo test recommended and will probably stay on it for good. Hope this gives some hope to anyone suffering with OCD and anyone who has a loved one with it

That’s really interesting. What stool test was in you got?

Marjie3 · 10/08/2024 10:08

It was a comprehensive stool test. It cost £375 so very expensive but without doubt the best money I have ever spent.

Which company did you use for the test and which cleanse did you do for him? Thank yoj

mayfridayjune · 10/08/2024 10:10

interesting! what is the supplement that was recommended to treat it?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/08/2024 10:11

That is so interesting! I'm so pleased, for you and your DS. I know DH will be interested in this (scientist). Just shows how important the gut microbiome is.

Strikingthebalance · 10/08/2024 10:19

What suppliment was it please?

Tonty · 10/08/2024 10:19

Thank you so much for sharing this, I'm sure it will help so many. I also have a ds with OCD but it's a comorbid of Tourettes so a different kind of OCD.
I vaguely remember reading about the link between OCD and the gut once and didn't think much of it but your story is quite compelling.
It is a dreadful condition, and like you, all we as a family could do is watch helplessly, although we have a faith and so pray and believe along with it.

I'd be interested in how this gut test can be done (What's the name of the test?) although like i said its a different kind of OCD so caused by something different.

Sorry to hear you’re going through this with your son. The test was recommended by the nutritionist I was seeing to try and help him. She suggested lots of things to change his diet but this didn’t help so I decided to try the test. I was very reluctant to do it at first because of the huge cost but like I said it was the best money I’ve ever spent. The test is a comprehensive stool test and I think several companies can offer it. My DS had his done by Genova diagnostics but I don’t think you can go directly through them - may need a referral through a private practitioner. Please let me know how you get on if you decide to try. Sending my best wishes

@Marjie3 Pls what is the name of the test???

merlinsdale · 11/08/2024 17:57

So so pleased for you.

My ds, 18, suffers from pure ocd. Now on a high dose of sertraline which has helped a lot but I'm still worried about him starting Uni this Sept.

It's a hellish illness.

betthh · 25/01/2025 09:47

Please can you share both the name of the parasite cleanse AND the maintenance supplement . THANK YOU KINDLY Marjie3

Caravaggiouch · 25/01/2025 09:51

You put him on a parasite cleanse without telling him? How does that work?

MsGoodenough · 25/01/2025 11:36

Please can you tell me what test you had and through what company? I am so close to losing my job due to OCD and I am desperate
