Do I take the cowards way out of leaving work?

Hi all,

From my previous posts you will be able to see that I have had many issues at work which has resulted in me filing a HR complaint where others have also come forward.

Anyway, I handed my notice in as I found a new job but I still have three weeks left. The last two weeks have me burning out, I’m doing everything by myself with no help and it’s getting me so exhausted. I know my GP would sign me off for the remainder of the weeks but I can’t help but feel that it’s a cowardly exit. Idk what to do because this is killing me

I wouldn’t care less if others deemed it cowardly. I would be gone like a hot snot. Your mental health is way more important.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get a sick line. Look after yourself.

No idea of your previous posts but it is pretty insensitive to post in the mental health topic that getting signed off sick due to mental ill health is 'the coward's way out'.

OP is wrestling with feelings of guilt and feeling cowardly. She is entitled to use these words to express her own mental health struggles and feelings of guilt.

Hi,
Im really sorry, I didn’t even think it would be perceived that way at all.
I don’t mean that signing yourself off for mental health is cowardly, I’m concerned that they will view me as going off sick after I filed a HR report as cowardly. Again I apologise for my lack of thinking on my behalf.

I think I’m going to have too but I feel awful for letting the few good team members down. It’s just killing me, I’ve never been in a work place like this. It’s absolute hell

It’s just difficult because I go to work and I try my damned best all the time but there is zero support, so much toxicity and it’s wrecking me

Thank you. I must admit that I really didn’t think before I typed it, I didn’t mean to be insensitive to anyone. I feel like I’m a coward signing off for any reason after filing a HR report. I feel bad letting the few good members off the team down and the clients that I support down. I just don’t think I can keep going.

I'm in much the same situation. I luckily got a new job then found out I had to work 8 weeks notice (I thought it was 4). I've done 4 weeks but nearly walked last week as it was hell. I emailed my manager and asked her to release me early because my mental health was suffering and she's letting me go at the end of next week. Is this an option for you? Flowers I completely empathise. It's awful.

Im sorry that you were in a similar situation, it is crazy how much of an impact negative work situations can have on your personal life. I’ve been having panic attacks, throwing up before work because I feel so overwhelmed, it’s just not working at all.

I can ask but I doubt they will as they are so low on staff as people keep leaving, wonder why? 🙄
