Vit B12 and anxiety.

Hey Everyone.
I'm a long time anxiety disorder sufferer. Few months ago I had some bloods done which found I was low in folate and B12 . Had these on prescription for 3 months with a view to then have a follow up with the doctor. Have been feeling better. Ran out of B12 few days ago and have a doctors appointment for next week. My God the anxiety has really ramped up last few days. Does vit B12 really make you feel so much better or is this coincidence?

Well I have pernicious anaemia and am injected with B12, and I definitely feel like I’m running on empty as I wait for my next appointment.

Anxiety isn’t one of my symptoms but if you feel better taking them compared to when you don’t I’d continue.

Anxiety can be one of the major symptoms of folate and B12 deficiency. Infact it was the first symptom I had that prompted my blood test. After I started supplementing I felt so much better. My 3 biggest symptoms were anxiety, insomnia and heart palpitations.

I’m on prescription for folate and have b12 injections. I’m 6 months post partum and suffered heavy blood loss, also don’t eat red meat. I honestly thought I was losing my mind before the prescription. Really anxious and panicky, always out of breath and fatigued, started to suspect postnatal depression so booked to see GP who suggested blood work first.

Honestly felt like the clouds disappeared and the sun came out after a few weeks taking everything. I don’t think it’s a coincidence going from my experience at all.

I SI vit b12 every week.
Mine was very low. GPs tend to not know much about b12. I went private .. learned all l needed to know by a specialist.
So now l buy ampoules from Germany at £1 each.. l buy 30 at a time..you cannot over dose because anything your body doesn't need comes out as you pee.
Best decision l made 7 years ago.
I was anxious/ 30 mouth ulcers a month .
Bad with Fibromyalgia .. load of other health problems.. but b12 has helped enormously.

@IfOn yes, I was just saying it wasn’t a symptom I suffer with, but plenty of others that impact my life.

Hi all.
Anxiety still not great and feeling a little bit teary today. Also at work. Have put a prescription request in to the doctor hoping I can have some more b12 before my bloods next week. Feel really panicky but not sure why. 😕

Feeling panicky can just be a part of the anxiety. Can you not just buy the b12 from boots or something?

Ask you go for a therapeutic course of B12 injections. The first few are close together over a couple of weeks then space out. If they make you feel better ask for this long term

Ilovedogs1 · 08/01/2024 09:52

Hey everyone. Been back on my b12 for a couple of days. @IfOn I did go to my local pharmacy to buy some but they'd run out.
Anyway, got my prescription but still feeling pretty anxious/overthinking etc.😩

Yes! My mother is elderly and B12 deficient, needs lifelong injections. Her care provider didn't book her last shot and over the last few weeks she has been in awful form - sleeping late, very low mood, fatigued, confused (more than usual). It finally clicked with them that her injection was a month overdue. It absolutely has a dramatic effect on wellbeing, mental and physical.

Hi can you have all these symptoms for years but with a very high B12 result not low? Mine is 2300ng/L. I paid private for b12 injections last year and my result in 2020 was 173ng/L normal is above 30 on the NHS app result. I have doctors next week to discuss my result. I also had an endoscopy last year and found I had h.pylori test- wondering if its connected?. Grateful for any advice.
