Sertraline or beta blockers for anxiety

I have had anxiety for as long as I can remember. I took sertraline for a couple of years to treat depression and weaned myself off them a couple of years ago. I don’t feel like I am depressed any more but my anxiety is getting worse.

mainly it is around travelling in a train or plane but i have also started having anxiety attacks in restaurants. It manifests when I’m in a place where people might look at me if I need to leave abruptly and it comes in the form of feeling suddenly extremely nauseous. I start feeling trapped, my heart starts racing and then the nausea comes.

i need to speak to my dr about medication but they really are worse than useless so I want to be prepared to ask for the most appropriate treatment. I can’t remember whether sertraline did anything for my anxiety or not (I was too focused on my depression at the time and it was a few years ago now). I’ve already had cbt for this issue and I don’t feel like it helped at all. It’s now stopping me from living my life fully so I want to get it sorted. Has anyone got experience of these? I’ve read you shouldn’t take them together

In my experience beta blockers are amazing for anxiety. Once your heart starts racing is a quick transition to panic which makes everything worse! But once that trains left the station it's hard to stop. I use beta blockers as and when I need as advised by my gp. Usually as I start the initial feeling, for me it's my heart that's the first sign. The beta blockers slow this again so the other symptoms don't materialise. Brilliant drug! Imo.

Anti depression medication for me numbed all feelings, I was on them for 14 years until this last year. They numbed my depression and anxiety but they also numbed my happiness and and joy I may feel. I only know this post coming off them. Its weird to feel my emotions again, good and bad. So I'd be of the opinion that if all your feelings aren't sad I'd try beta blockers first.

Good luck, hope you get sorted. You can take both together though, well I was given both
