Being a Samaritan

Am interested in being a Samaritan and going to a recruitment evening in the New Year.

I'm a Mental Health First Aider at work and have helped sign post people, and mostly have been listened.

What is it like being a Samaritan? What is the training like?

How do I know if I will be any good at it?

I'd ask MNHQ to move this into Chat.

It's a great thing you're doing. Thank you.

Been a service user a couple of times. Not suicidal but distressed and on my last nerve a couple of times. IME they are there to listen and let the caller offload. They don’t offer advice or signpost to other services. So this maybe a different experience to what you have had as a mental health first aider.

I recommended it moves to chat because in this forum it'll be people who've used samaritans rather than been one, generally

The training is very good. You are also given support as you start taking calls.
