My 18yo son struggles to get to sleep so I thought for Christmas I might get him something which would help. He's not allowed his phone in his room (that's just always been the rule) so no apps. Anything else which may help?

At 18 he should be able to make his own mind up about having a phone in his room.

weighted blanket

but surely at 18 it is his prerogative re phone use?

I would let him have his phone, at 18 he is considered to be an adult. Then he could listen to the calm app or to some asmr videos on you tube, they are wonderfully relaxing and soothing to fall asleep to.

This works - deep sleep pillow spray

You can get little white noise machines but not sure how good they are

You could try some sleep well hot chocolate - again not sure if any good as I haven’t tried

When I can't sleep - which is often - I listen to podcasts on my phone. I think he's probably old enough to decide if he can have his phone in his room...

Manta eye mask and loop ear plugs!!

He's not asked for phone in room and I actually think it's a great habit. I wish I had that habit. Even as adults, scrolling rubbish way past bedtime can be all too easy - and that is with a more developed prefrontal cortex.

Thanks for the other ideas. I will look into that spray.
