Breaking cycle of overwork/depression

I notice that I seem to either over work to the point of exhaustion and burnout or I am so low I find it hard to do anything at all. I assume I work to get away from the low feeling but I would love to break out of this cycle somehow. I keep making myself unwell, it is all so all or nothing.

I used to do this. Then I learnt to pace myself when I work, so even if I'm feeling low I convince myself to do 10 15 mins of work and when I'm in my excessive work modes I take a 5 min break every hour.

Sounds like good advice.

Aswell, or instead of, the 5 minute break I sometimes force myself to slow down, so eg walk slowly to the loo/printer/whatever. Mindfully drink a hot drink.

And be kind to yourself if it’s a less productive kind of day. Kindness towards yourself is very important and easy to forget.
