suffering terrible anxiety tonight and can’t sleep. Anyone else feeling the same? Woke up Confused from weird dream and feel like I am too wired/ shaky and alert to go back to sleep. Anxiety is really indescribable isn’t it. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Anyone any tips for dealing with this beast again after a stressful time ( been ok for past four years but major life stresses seems to of kicked it off again) makes you feel like your going crazy and the nights are so long.

Anxiety also seems to hit me when I am stressed and wake up exactly like you and then find myself binge watching Netflix till the early hours in the hope I will just fall asleep again.

Which is what I am doing now .. whilst looking for Christmas gifts .

Just know your not alone and this will pass x

Yes! Stressed to the max over family feuds and trying to stay out of it.

I just want calm and a stress free life and no drama Confused

My tip is distraction. Watch something or do a word puzzle. My go to is Upwords

Thank you for your reply. Although I hate to think of anyone else enduring this awful all consuming illness I am glad someone else can relate and understand. X

No chance. Have woken my husband up with all my tossing and turning now Blush

Is there a reason you are prone to stress? Are you a people pleaser or anything in your past? Understanding the base reason can help.

Not to sure. I’ve been on medication for around 10 years for anxiety but I have never gotten to the root cause of it. Although I have had some issue in childhood with parents separating etc. but when am anxious it’s all consuming / feel sick shaky tired and scared and my brain just goes into over drive with weird thoughts. I think I have undiagnosed ocd from a lot of reading over the years. A death in the family seems to of stirred this up. I thought I was doing ok and although not anxious as such about the actual circumstances the stress of it all might of caused this.

I've had nocturnal panic attacks over the years which are always worse as they escalate before they wake me up, anxiety is a bitch.

Currently awake as my lovely mum is in a hospice with days to live.

I am so so sorry to hear this. No wonder you can’t sleep. Sending lots of love and light over the coming days to you. Do you have support to help you through? X

Have you ever had counselling? I had EDMR (think that's the right acronym) and was pretty sceptical but it turned out to be very good at unlocking what the issue was.

I will also look further into nocturnal panic attacks. But I do think I have had these also sadly. Tonight my husband woke me mid dream by fixing bedcovers and I was dreaming of Christmas trees of all things nothing scary - I was partially awake weird to describe as I knew I was semi awake but still dreaming anyway it left me feeling terribly confused and still anxious now.

@MummytoBoth if you haven't already please look into remedial hypnosis. It could help you understand and deal with the negative core beliefs that are causing the excessive anxiety.
