Fluoxetine and tiredness

Hello,

DD16 started this 3 weeks ago for depression. She was on 10mg for about 10 days and then on 20mg.
She is mostly coping but it is making her really tired. If I let her she would sleep all day and all night.
I am obviously unreasonable in expecting no side effects but was a bit anxious to know if others have experienced similar and if so, did it eventually pass
She is currently not able to go to school and is just fast asleep at home.

Thanks,
XX

Hello, sorry to hear your daughter needs anti depressants but it might worth having a word with her Doctor, these particular ones might not be suiting her and there are different ones she can try.

My ds, 18, recently started a different brand of antidepressants and went up to 20mg - he was so tired for the first week but it has definitely improved (although he is waking up at night whereas he didn't use to). He also didn't get to school for the first week.

I would give it at least 10 days to settle down.

Thank you both for the response.
I have asked for the camhs psychiatrist to ring me to discuss with her.
I think she settled on 10mg and then the upping to 20mg means she needs to get used to it again.

All material I have read say to give 6 to 8 weeks to settle and see benefits.
I wasn't expecting a miracle in 3 weeks but it does have me a bit worried..
Seems like she is sleeping away her worries and fears 😔
