God I hate this bastard illness - I've had it over 30 years on and off. I know i will always have it and it feels so unfair. It has taken friendships, jobs, relationships, joy, confidence and relationship with kids. It really is the worst thing ever. Partner said the other night 'you're such a lovely person you don't deserve this'.and I thought no I bloody well don't.

That's a long time to suffer 😥Can you recall when and why it started?

Greedybilly · 28/11/2023 16:59

It started when I was 17. Hereditary I think. It feels like a long time to be battling.

Just hereditary with no cause sounds awful & explains title/OP

Ime depression was 100% down to experience so I’ve never felt ‘depression’ robbed me of anything.

The people who hurt or abused me caused the depression and so therefore are the ‘thieves’ to my mind.

Anyone minimising or ignoring the damage are complicit too ofc.

But depression as a concept I’ve felt quite friendly with, after all we’ve spent many years together.

Bit like you can love a river beside your house even if your house floods bc it’s not the river’s fault.

It’s the arsehole who built the house too close to the river/without adequate support/or who didn’t gaf if you were flooded.

Just random depression without any origin point is totally beyond me tho so best wishes to anyone for whom that is the case.

@DaisysChains

Same for me, but you have expressed it so much better than I have ever been able to.
