Restraint

I was restrained by hospital staff because I was refusing to come inside. I can't stop it going through my mind, any ideas on dealing with it? It's hard because I wasn't being violent or anything.

Can you speak to a trusted nurse or hcw on shift and tell them how you feel. After any restraint the staff should be following it up with you to ask how you are . Failing that have you got the phone number of the independent advocate for your unit or service.

Are you voluntary patient or under section @SnowyMouse?

I was restrained lots of times when trying to escape and was sectioned after that so be careful

I left hospital a few days ago, I was under section when it happened. It's haunting me a bit.

Are you scheduled to have some kind of follow-up? If so, I'd bring it up then and explain that in order for you to process the whole experience you need to understand a bit more about what their thinking was around the restraints. I hope you're ok x

I agree @SnowyMouse . It is a horrible feeling when you are not in control of your own life. I got worse when I was sectioned because of that. I found the forced medication worse than the restraint TBH.

That's a good idea, I'm going from the crisis team to my CMHT next week, so I might raise it.

It is a horrible experience, I also was assaulted by another patient whilst I was on section, so they couldn't keep me safe.

Ion was once put on the bed with straps. I had to stay there overnight. Very difficult to wee on the pot. I wasn't really traumatised. Actually I found it amusing since I had thought they won't use these bed anymore!

My experiences and the fear keep coming to mind. I'm glad you weren't traumatised poignant.

You need to ask for a debrief with those involved. It might help you understand the rationale for the restraint and if it was justified. All patient care should be as least restrictive as possible. Sorry you've been through thisb
