I’m looking at EMDR but don’t know how I go about finding a therapist -
ones I have found online are too far away. Some offer sessions over zoom etc but would these be as effective? Please if you have experience could you share anything helpful. Thank you.

I've just had a 6 week assessment through Mental Health NHS.
The outcome was EMDR would benefit me greatly.. the waiting list is 2 years. I'm going private.
I googled for my area and a few therapist came up.. I've mailed three.. l want face to face..( my care planner who assessed me is EMDR trained) and l was told zoom does work but not as effective and you need more sessions.
EMDR was first used for Soilders with PTSD.. l have had counselling for over 30 years due to horrific trauma from my past.. this is my last resort to stop it coming back to haunt me.
Good luck.

I'm just going through emdr at the moment. I was referred via the NHS (5 year wait though).
I was told its not as effective online but can work. I did have a few of the pre emdr sessions online due to NHS not having enough rooms and found that I felt I was hiding behind the screen (it just didn't feel right for me) so i said I'd rather they cancel rather than book online in future.
So far emdr has been great (it feels like a roller coaster ride), a few light bulb moments, a lot of tears and lots of bad memories. But I took the view I was having all these bad memories any way it was perhaps the best to face them head on. I can now think about a few memories without it being terrifying it just feels like an image rather than reliving it.
I did worry about not clicking with my psychologist (as being NHS I couldn't change and you need to go through the whole process with the same person) but it's been fine.

Thank you so much for your replies. @Sillysoppysentimental I am feeling much like you, years and years of therapy and this is a last resort stop that I am hoping will help.
@NeverneverNO12or3 thanks so much for your insight. I feel I would prefer face to face for similar reasons.
I have contacted a women’s mental health charity and will see what the waiting times are like, I assume they will be years so I will need to find it myself as things are rough currently.
Thanks to you both and sending hugs.
