Why is life so hard?

I have had a pretty good year all in all. This past month has just been so difficult. My stepdad has just come out of hospital after a really, really worrying three weeks. (See other thread). My husband's great-auntie died on Tuesday and we have her funeral to go to on Wednesday in Bristol. Tonight I have had a phone call from my family in Wales to say my Uncle has died this afternoon. He has been very sick for 2 years now and deteriorateed quickly over the last few months but I am still feeling really sad. It has been really testing and I am feeling really drained.

Thanks cardigans - thanks too for listening to my moans. Don't want to make everyone miserable but it helps to offload on here for sure xx.

Hi Sparkler,
sedning you lots of {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}. Hope things improve soon for you. Remember we're all here thinking of you

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 27/12/2004 22:06

Thank you so much Loobz. I appreciate your thoughts. Have had a better day today. Things are calming down a bit and have had a bit more time to relax and enjoy time with the children.

Glad you've had a better day today and have had time to relax with your children. It's tiring enough at this time of year and that's without everything that you've had going on. Hope you can get a rest. Take care.

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 27/12/2004 22:34

Yes have poured myself a very large Baileys and am sat here scoffing lots of choccies (had SW weigh in tonight so can get away with it!!!}

Loobz · 27/12/2004 22:40

At least you are having something nice (bailey's)-I'm still on painkillers - not quite the same - and I've eaten too much Christmas cake (I am not making one next year)

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 27/12/2004 23:11

Oh Loobz. Can't believe you are still having problems. How long do the doctors think it will be until you are fully recovered? So I guess you never did get those green shoes???

OP posts:
Loobz · 28/12/2004 10:41

Doctors have not been very helpful - just keep saying that I'll know when I'm ready to drive and that pain may be around for a while. Go to see GP tomorrow so hopefully get more sense out of her than I did out of consultant!
The green shoes bit was funny - at least dd thought so - I went to try them on convinced that I would be able to walk in them - got them on no bother, stood up and nearly fell flat on my face - was so painful but had to laugh when I looked at dd - who came out with the words 'that'll be a no then' while at the same time trying hard not to giggle. Bought black ones with a very small heel and they were okay on the night out but did I suffer the next day!!!
I've even had to go out and buy flat shoes for going back to work. I refuse to go back wearing trainers!!!

Arabica · 28/12/2004 21:25

So sorry to read about your Christmas Sparkler. Here's hoping you have a lovely new year without bereavements, funerals, long journeys or accidents--just a fabulous family time to relax and do whatever you want.

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 28/12/2004 21:29

Thanks Arabica. Tonight is the first time in a week that dh and I have sat and relaxed alone. We made sure we put dd's to bed early. I am sat with a large Baileys with the laptop and dh is sat next to me with a beer playing on his new toy (a plug-in-tv computer with 128 old arcade games on from the 1980s!). So we are both quite happy tonight. Shame he has to go back to work tomorrow.

Sparkler - ds got one of those 80's plug in type things as well. We are all hooked. Dh and I keep competing and as always I lose!
Hope you are feeling a bit better (((xxx)))

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 28/12/2004 21:33

dh is playing the track and field game at the moment - he is in his element!

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 28/12/2004 21:36

I had a thread about this one in chat - nervous about refund - (sorry don't know how to do this link thingy!! )
Bought it in our local shopping centre on a stall - £30

OP posts:
blossomhill · 28/12/2004 21:38

That was good sparkler. Did you have problems with it then?

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 28/12/2004 21:40

Not in the end - bit of a long story to go into here. It was all okay in the end. Glad I bought it for dh he is like a little kid when he is on it!

OP posts:
blossomhill · 28/12/2004 21:44

I must get another one then sparkler as we have had so much fun with ours. Really took me back to when we used to own a caravan when I was a child. Spent so much time in the Arcades that it brought back so many memories
Just told dh and both of us are saying we have to get one as we loved track and field. It was the best!

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 28/12/2004 21:54

This is the one we have

www.letsgoretro.com/retro_arcade_games_console.html

I can't believe they are asking for £50!! I paid £30.

Where do you live?

OP posts:
blossomhill · 29/12/2004 11:36

Hi Sparkler

I am in Surrey

SPARKLER1clausiscomingtotown · 29/12/2004 21:29

I'm in Poole. Bit of a long way for you to travel down - unless you are planning a shopping trip down this way in the sales!!!

OP posts:
blossomhill · 29/12/2004 21:30

Too scared to drive that far
Why don't you pop into the bar I have just opened. I have finished slapping everyone so you will be okay
