Hi all,

ive been on sertraline for 9 weeks now- I have played around with the dosage a little but currently on 50mg. However I feel like my intrusive thoughts are getting worse if anything- should I try to switch to a new tablet? What tablet do people find work best for rumination/intrusive thoughts? I find the minute I wake up im flooded with negative feelings

Hi OP, I think people find different ADs work for them so there isn’t really one “best” one.

FWIW, 50mg of Sertraline is a very low dose so it is worth considering increasing that to 100mg at least to see if that addresses your issues before trying any different ADs.

(I’m no expert but have tried countless different ADs over the years)

@Burgerexplosion I tried to up them but i found it impossible to function on that dose. Even the 75mg seemed to mess me around, especially physically

I have found Fluoxetine the best, but as burger said, it really does depend on the person. I tried 4 different types over quite a few years

i think it can take a few weeks for the side effects to settle down but maybe you’re right that you should try a different AD. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or just a GP?

@Burgerexplosion just a gp but have a therapy appointment in a few weeks time

Fluoxetine also worked for me. Within a week of starting it, I was almost back to normal - so it worked very quickly (and no side effects).
