Changing from Citalopram

Hello Mumsnetters,
Can you help? I'm 51 years old and on HRT.
I've been on Citalopram for years.
40mg for the last 5 years, since my marriage ended and my Mum's death.
Recently I've been going through a tough time and the Citalopram doesn't seem as effective. I'm having panic attacks etc.
Would changing to another antidepressant help?

I changed to sertraline which seems better, but the change over was awful but that could be because I was on a high dose and had to go to a low dose of sertraline to start

Sorry just seen you are also on 40mg, I have heard from a few people (entirely anecdotally) that citalopram does become less effective over time. I've heard that escitalopram is very effective

After a consultation with the GP and bit of a break down, I'm changing from Citalopram to Sertraline.
I've got to half my Citalopram dose for the next seven days.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

I did a direct switch, took my last 40mg Citalopram on the Wednesday and started 50mg Sertraline on the Thursday. I'm 6 weeks in now and will probably up my Sertraline as I'm still anxious feeling anxious when out of the house!
