Hi all,

I’ve been on sertraline for nearly 8 weeks now, and my intrusive racing thoughts have only improved very slightly. Should I try and carry on with them or switch to a different tablet? I did try to increase the dose but it made me feel even worse. I’ve also been prescribed a beta-blocker but I’m slightly hesitant to take that. Any advice?

Hey,I was on sertraline to it made he alot worse I tryed it for 12weeks and had to be taken off them they did not agree with me at all if anything it made my moods and thoughts alot worse than they where I ended up on a roof top ect .they're are medication that you could try as an alternative I get a call everyday from my doctor checking in and the Chrisis team are amazing they have helped me look into other options. I am doing a bit better myself after years of being in a relationship am now on my own and trying to get on my feet witch is hard but please speak with you're doctor as I'd hate for anyone else to go down the road I've being down Hun they have a duty to find the right medication that will be best for you they can also put you in touch with other agencies to just don't expect no as answer

What mg are you on?
I'm usually started on 50mg then move up when I need to. I've used 150mg before but 100mg seems to be right for me at the moment

Pringle2223 · 28/10/2023 12:50

@scaredofff im on 50mg, I tried 100mg but for a week but i struggled really bad on that dose. Not sure whether to try another type or see if these need more time

Intrusive thoughts/OCD seem to need a higher dose. I went up to 150, with horrendous side effects and increased anxiety, but I’ve gotten to the other side now. Was “easier” for me as I’ve done it before and knew what to expect. Maybe try upping the dose more gradually - 75? Xx

scaredofff · 28/10/2023 13:15

When I feel like this I always feel it's almost like a conundrum. As you've already done 8 weeks it would be sad to waste that time as it will be a few before you're off these and another 2 or so until the next medication starts working. But then again they also might not be the right ones for you. I think a little more time time will tell. You could go up to 75 and take 1 and a half for a couple of weeks and see if that helps before trying something new?

Audreykmjhe · 28/10/2023 14:06

Just please don't take no for answer as the doctor there to help you Hun big hugs you're way I hope you manage to get things fixed sweetie take care

@Runforyourliiife @scaredofff yeah I might try 75- do you think it’s best to take at same time or 50 in morning and 25 at night? X

I’ve always only taken full tablets in the morning. I try to avoid changing things too much.. put my head down and go with what comes every day. But again, I’ve done it before so much easier to trust the initial side effects are going to pass

I do think people just react in different ways to different drugs. I tried citalopram and had to come off in after 24 hours- horrendous intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, insomnia. Swapped to Sertraline and was terrified reading about the side effects but I didn’t have any at all. I did wonder if it was doing anything much for ages but have been on it a year now and looking back to where I was it has definitely helped so so much and I feel I’ve got my life back.

I should say I’m on 50mg for anxiety, intrusive thoughts, OCD. I saw a psychologist for a couple of months too and the combination really helped. If it’s not causing you any issues I would stick with it.

Hi
I know this thread is from about a month ago but just want to ask how everyone is doing? I'm literally about to open the second box of 50mg Sertraline and feeling a bit cautious. I've had classic nausea, headaches, dizziness, but this morning I woke up getting out of bed at about 5am for no reason as if I was about to start sleepwalking. Over the last few days I've had almost nothing to eat but also started with diarrhoea - sorry, TMI - and my sleep pattern is out of the window again.

I spoke to my GP this morning who said because my mood is improving I should stay on 50mg, but I asked if I could split the tablets to 25mg he said he would "strongly advise" against it. The problem is I also have epilepsy, so they're struggling to suggest anything else for me to try. Sorry to babble a bit but I don't know if moods improving while side effects seem to get worse is normal around the 4/5 week mark

Thanks

Hi-
I've been on 50 mg for 2 weeks and am now on day 3 of 100 mg Sertraline.
I feel awful. I haven't eaten anything all day. Im extremely anxious and have intrusive thoughts. I'm really hoping that I begin to feel better soon.

Heidihi77 · 14/12/2023 21:29

I’ve been on it a year now and it’s been brilliant for me. Feel like I’ve got my life back and can think logically again. It did take quite a long time to feel like this. Things Improved after a few weeks to the point I could get on with things but still had a lot of anxiety in the background whereas I’m not really having many anxious thoughts now. I did try citalopram first and had to come off that straight away as felt so terrible. I didn’t have any side effects at all with Sertraline and found it extremely mild to the point I wasn’t sure it was doing anything at all at first. I would say stick with it as it definitely works but equally I think different ones work for different people so don’t be afraid to try something else.

That's good to know. I do wish that it would start kicking in for me. Xx

It’s such an awful position to be in just desperately wanting not to feel so awful. I remember it well. Hang in there. I remember very clearly feeling that my life was over cos I couldn’t do anything I wanted to with crippling anxiety so to have my life back in a relatively short space of time is amazing. I did see a therapist alongside - only 6 sessions and would highly recommend that. Good luck and really hope you feel better soon.

I know this is an old post but wanted to see how everybody was getting on? I've been prescribed sertraline for anxiety and intrusive thoughts but so scared to take them. I have 3 young children and the side affects are worrying me.
