Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice please and I know you wonderful lot are amazing. I am suffering with anxiety and depression, this was induced by the breakup of my partner of 6 years, which was over 2 months ago. never suffered with mental heath before but I can't get past this horrible stage of where I'm at (no appetite, anxiety and awful low moods) I feel so so lost. Doc put me on citalopram (had a god awful reaction to it where I became suicidal) came off them, I am too scared to try another one, seen on line about st johns wort? Which I'd be willing to try as seems to have less side effects but really need help on brands, where to buy from amd dosages, has anyone got any success story's and could help me please on how to start, or anything else i could try, it's all so confusing and I'm desperate to have my mood lifted as I have 4 children and I'm starting to feel guilty that I'm not myself, thank you for reading

What was the citalopram dose? Did you actually look into how antidepressants work - specifically, the timeframe?

St John's Wort - it does seem to have some serotonin effects, as with antidepressants, but if so - just take antidepressants, as then the dose is controlled and the actual active component is isolated. Much safer and should present with fewer side effects.

I tried it once, didn’t like it at all. Made me feel worse and worse, so I stopped taking it after about 10 days.

Try sertraline instead.

I tried citalopram and had a terrible reaction to it, which really put me off anti-depressants.

I tried fluoxetine (quite a while later), and they started working pretty much immediately (within a few days) with no side-effects. Maybe give those a try?

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so awful. Hope you feel better soon x
