How long before you stop feeling terrible on sertraline?

I was on it for years previously, 100mg, and remember it taking a while of feeling worse before feeling better but don't remember the severity.

I have tried to start again after a break and keep giving up as the side effects are so terrible.
I have taken 50mg yesterday and feel just awful. Sick, headache, tired, foggy headed etc. Awful. I don't want to take any more but am having a terrible episode of anxiety which I know will be eased by the sertraline once I get over the initial side effects.

How long do I have to get through feeling like this before the benefits kick in?

I think it’s about two weeks. Can you go down to 25mg for a while to get used to a small amount first.

I felt bloody awful for 2-3 weeks. It calmed down and was worth worth sticking with.

Yes, I agree about a fortnight. I’m currently tapering down from 150mg and thinking maybe I shouldn’t. The withdrawal is real!

hugs ❤️

I would but I only have 100mg tablets which I'm breaking in half.

I don't think I can do 2 weeks. Too much going on at work then we are going away at half term.

I don't know what's worse, the side effects or the anxiety. This sucks.

I know it will be worth it in the end. I just don't know if I can do it.

The first week was terrible, by the second week the nausea and dizziness had started to subside. What saved me was a prescription for Xanax from my GP, because the anxiety and insomnia were terrible. Only needed it for the first two weeks, by week 3 I was back at work and the difference in me was noticeable to my colleague.

TreeHuggerMum1 · 14/10/2023 19:23

I did two weeks of 25, side effects were bad enough, then tried to go to 50, it was awful. I dropped back to 25 and am still there a month later. I’m trying to go back up but I’m taking one plus a quarter of a 25 so just about 31mg 🤪

Surely the doctor hasn’t prescribed you straight on to 100mg? Try and get some 50mg you can cut in half

Maybe try taking them with food if you don’t already?

Hello
i stopped in the summer and relapsed two months after. I restarted at the end of August. Ive done two weeks on 50, four on 100, and I’m now in my first on 150. It’s been BRUTAL. But I have OCD type anxiety so I need to be on a high dose. Unfortunately due to the continuous increase it’s been a rollercoaster to say the least… you have all my sympathy OP. Restarting SSRIs is really hard. I try to take one day at a time.

Not exactly, I have these left over from when I was on them previously.

I guess I'll have to get a new prescription for a lower dose.

Straight to 100mg is bound to make you feel crap. Start on 50 (25 even) and taper up. Steel yourself for a tricky couple of weeks and hang in there. You will be ok, and this first bit WILL pass 💐

I'm doing 50, I think I need to try 25

Two weeks for.me too

slithytoveisascientist · 14/10/2023 20:45

You already know you shouldn't be doing this without doctor

I started on a week of half 25mg
Then 25 for a month
Then 50 then 100

I felt not myself and had some bad dreams but was ok
