Lethargy getting worse on Citalopram, ready to go cold turkey!

I’m taking for depression as I was getting increasingly low over this last year. In the past I’ve been on setraline and Prozac and both gave me extreme sweating and insomnia. I usually give up after 3/ 4 months.

It’s week 3 of 10mg of Citalopram, I just feel so very tired and lethargic and unmotivated to do anything. My weight is creeping up even with exercising. Is anyone on my dosage? Please does it get better? My tiredness and lethargy is not helping this awful feeling of emptiness.

Any advice or hope would be great! I’m tempted to go cold turkey if this carries on!

Thanks for your reply. In the past I’ve been on other ADs and had awful side effects, the constant hot flushes were unbearable so thought I’d try the lowest dose of this.

I just feel so unmotivated and tired, will it get better? I’m worried if I increase to 20mg I may start off the flushes again. Also I keep reading that citalopram is a sedative AD so ideally I want one that will give me energy and lift me. I know I’m asking a lot from an AD but I’m so desperate to not feel this awful.

I assume you’re taking Citalopram in the evening?
I couldn’t cope with it unless I took it in the evenings, when I was on it a few years ago. You would certainly not feel as tired by taking later.
I’ve found most SSRI’s & SSRNI’s have tiredness as a side effect. The worst was Mirtazapine.
Currently on Duloxetine & feel wrecked all day but not anxious, so don’t mind!!

Just DON'T.BY all means talk with your GP about tailing it off, but do not just stop it. You will regret it.

Thank you, I take it just before bed. I’m going to speak to my GP as I have come to the conclusion that ADs don’t work for me. I feel wrecked is the appropriate description!

Ah thank you@TheBuggerlugs , it knocks me out as soon as I have it ar night and kinda was worried it may do the same in the daytime and I can’t be knackered due to work. I’ll have another chat with my Gp.

I just don’t think even on low dose it works for me but maybe I’m too impatient!
