Hi has anybody had escitilopram? Recently been prescribed it but the side effects have me scared to take it!

I've been on it for 20 years with breaks of 6 months to a year sometimes. It's well worth persevering with any initial side effects for the first days and couple of weeks. I find it incredibly stabilising.

TabithaTiger · 30/09/2023 11:34

Like PP, I've been on it a long time too. About 15 years I think. I've had no problems at all and I felt better quite quickly once I started taking it. I take mine at night. What dosage are you on?

AreolaGrande · 30/09/2023 12:46

I've been taking it since February and, same as @MWNA , I find it really stabilising and helpful with no noticeable side effects.

Previously took sertraline which was awful for me. Gave me lucid nightmares, jaw tension resulting in pain and robbed me of my ability to orgasm.

@MWNA thanks so much its the side effects that put me off xx

Best thing I did was start taking it.. no side effects for me other than my sex drive is lower and I can no longer climax unfortunately so now in two minds to try some else as don't want it affecting that side of my relationship

mumsyx · 30/09/2023 15:06

I had it for a while, but absolutely piled on weight. My friend is on it and swears by it. He changed GP and they tried swapping him to something cheaper. But he swapped back.

mumsyx · 30/09/2023 15:33

@Toddlerteaplease i was on mirtazapine and piled weight on ahh didnt realise these ones did too xx

I had that at first but it didn't last, I went back pretty much to normal after a few months

QueenBitch666 · 30/09/2023 15:49

I've been taking 5mgs at night for about 15 years. Had side effects for a few weeks but great once they'd settled down

mumsyx · 30/09/2023 17:07

Magic stuff in my opinion. DH and I are both on 20mg and take it in the morning. Very effective, especially for anxiety.

Good luck Flowers
