I'm desperate. I need to give something a try. Has hypnotherapy helped anyone? I can't carry on as I am petrified in my own house, and passing the fear on to my daughter.

I've worked with people with arachnophobia (I'm a remedial hypnotist) and it's an easy one to deal with. Normally it starts from a parent or grandparent being scared and imprinting that fear on you when you were too young to be objective. Not genetic but useful from an evolutionary viewpoint.

A couple of sessions is normally sufficient - look for recommendations in your area or online.

I had a very successful hypnotherapy treatment for my extreme fear of childbirth when I was pregnant with my first child 15 years ago. Against all expectations I was completely calm on my D-day and had a normal delivery. I had 5 sessions. Best use of £300 I ever had. Just as per previous posts, phone around and find the person you think you are going to click on. My therapist never treated my type of fear before and didn't even have children herself. However her treatment still worked

I did the London Zoo day course and found it very helpful, but it does wear off after a while. That said, I'm still better 20 years on than I used to be.
