Hi.. again I followed your duloxetine post ( I'm the crazy that tried to take my own life) I have been on venlafaxine however I didn't stay on it very long NOT because it didn't work for my mental health symptoms but because it made an undiagnosed heart condition ( atrial fibrillation, very young to have it I'm only 29 WORSE. When he trials you on it deffo preserve with it. I suppose anti Ds are like contraception, not all size fits all! Xx

Olivia199 · 17/09/2023 16:39

As the PP said above, one size doesn't fit all. I trialed it and found it absolutely horrendous and I got quite a lot worse on it. My best friend who's my double found it the most miracle drug and has been better than she ever has before. Unfortunately it does take a while if it is going to suit so stick with it but keep a very close eye on yourself and any worsening changes make sure you discuss with GP.

WhoWants2Know · 17/09/2023 16:41

It is a bit of trial and error with antidepressants. Venlafaxine is what really works for me, partly because it forces me to be rigid in the way I take it.

With other antidepressants I had brain fog and would forget often enough to make them less effective.

That's not an option with venlafaxine, because forgetting causes withdrawal.

Is it better taken with food? Three weeks of torture so far. Literally living minute by minute...

@WhoWants2Know what do you mean rigid?? Do you mean take at same time? Thanks

Venlafaxine almost destroyed me. I wouldn't wish this drug on my worst enemy. It was prescribed to me by the doctor and I took it for four months feeling more and more dreadful as time went on. Took me another 3 months to wean off it and It's left me with permanent tinnitus.
An absolute no for me but I appreciate for others it's a game changer.
OP if it doesn't work for you I would suggest you trying another medication.

Greedybilly · 17/09/2023 17:33

@lanawinters yes it's been 3weeks of torture. So hard to get a gp appt though and you never see same person twice. Loads of locums who are crap and know less than me :(

I have had a good exp on venlafaxine and I’ve tried a lot of other ssris… it’s the only medication that’s worked for me and made me feel more balanced. I’d suggest persevering for a few more weeks and then returning to your GP if no improvement. Sorry you’re struggling x

Gnomegarden32 · 23/10/2023 03:08

Venlafaxine is the only one that has ever worked for me. No bad side effects coming on or off it for me, which I know is lucky. It really has made it possible for me to function.

I’ve had exactly the same experience with it.

BusterGonad · 23/10/2023 05:10

It's the only one that works for my husband, he has anxiety disorder, he tried many, and it was horrendous to watch. He eventually went on venaflaxine and it's worked for him, and still does.

BusterGonad · 23/10/2023 05:10

Just to add, some do make you feel worse before you feel better.

Same here. Lifesaver.

OP are you still on it? Did you persevere?
almost every depression tablet takes 2-6 weeks ish to get used to.
I lasted 5 weeks, I had diarrhoea the whole time 🙈 was pretty good drug though! More energy, focus and I was happy but I had a panic attack and realised I was just going too fast, not chilling.
