Phobias (BP) - Potentially hypnotherapy

Hi,

I have a massive irrational phobia of getting my blood pressure taken. I don’t know where it came from but it’s here. It’s not white coat syndrome either because my panic is even worse when I try and take it at home.

I need to have it done to be reissued HRT and I don’t know how to overcome it. I’ve had private therapy and I’m already on the highest dose of Citalopram but I just can’t get round this.

This leads me to consider hypnotherapy because I can’t think of anything else.

Has anyone ever tried this or does anyone have any similar experiences with a potential solution?

Thank you.

As a remedial hypnotist I've helped people with various phobias - needles, flying, spiders and snakes. Even if you can't consciously remember when and why the fear started your subconscious will know, and will have developed it as a (mistaken or misunderstood) strategy to keep you safe. A couple of sessions should be enough to reset the thought pattern.

Absolutely! Hypnotherapy is a great way to reprogram your mind to think positive and constructive thoughts. You can, for example, build trust and confidence that it's safe for you to have your blood pressure taken.

In my practice I usually combine hypnotherapy with a behavioural element and grounding exercises for greatest effect and I've helped countless people face their fears and overcome obstacles.

Happy to have a chat about this if you have any more questions 😊

Oh this is a horrible phobia to have, I'm sorry for you. I hate it (WCS) and get very upset but the best way for me to deal with it (after lots of cbt) is to do it all myself. Place it on my own arm etc. And not let the medical professional touch it/me at all. Good luck
