When to take sertraline?

I go to Center parks later on today. I've took my fist tablet this morning and it's made me feel very tired with no energy. Am I best to just stop and restart on Monday when I'm back or continue to take them when I'm there as I've already started ?

I would suggest starting when you’re home. The initial couple weeks can be rough for some people so you’re best to enjoy your holiday first 🥰 good luck xx

I take mine at 8pm at night, more because i dont want to be tired or drowsy if driving. It hasnt affected my sleep so far.

MinnieMouse0 · 08/09/2023 23:10

I take mine in the morning because I was having trouble sleeping when I took it in the evening.

I felt drowsy for the first few days/week but fine now, almost 4 weeks in.

I have to take mine before about 11am or i dont sleep. It saved my life this drug.

Yeah i felt like a total zombie for first 3 days. By day 4 id stopped crying everyday. By day 14 i was sleeping more. A couple of months in and it was like the sun came out.
My worst side effects are jaw clenching, ive cracked my teeth and everything but i do do that due to anxiety too.
It stopped my panic attacks and i went from every other day to maybe 5 times a year and they are nothing like they were b4. Stick with it. Xx

I took mine at night for the first few nights to miss the side effects but it was awful and I couldn't sleep, switched to morning on about day 3 or 4. First week was bad... not awful but I started them for anxiety and I felt alot worse. However I knew to expect this and ride it out. Felt back to normal by the end of first week and it's only went up and up from there. I now forget I ever had anxiety and it's honestly magical... I feel like I'm living a normal life.

However if you're not too bad and can wait, I'd probably delay til you get back from holidays. But on the other hand being on holiday might be nice if you're feeling a bit grim and take your mind off it. Either way do give them a chance and if they don't help after a few weeks don't be disheartened... there are plenty of others to try x

Sorry i misread it. I would start at home

Squarepegroundhole78 · 08/09/2023 23:18

I take mine right before bed as they make me feel relaxed but sleepy and I don't like that dozy feeling during the day..

Yes, holiday first, provided it won't exacerbate your MH condition.

I must admit I've only been to Center Parks once, with Ex and DC, and I'm afraid it was not the best holiday I've ever had - self catering is not my ideal for a restful holiday, and many of our holidays had to be self-catering to keep costs down.
But I can see the attraction of Center Parks if you're a sporty family Smile

I've been on a fair few different antidepressants over the years, and have always been told to take them in the morning. The only side effects I've ever had with SSRIs (paroxatine, sertaline, escitalipram) were slight nausea at the very start of being prescribed this type of meds. Am old, so it wasn't till 1998, shortly after it was approved, that I even began them.

The meds I took previous to that worked by the numbing the emotions. I tried them a couple of times, but ended up deciding I would prefer to feel miserable than to feel nothing Sad

For me, SSRIs were very effective, very quickly. Everyone's physiology is slightly different though, so sometimes you have have several goes at finding the right one, giving it the recommended 6 weeks before you evaluate your MH to see if it has improved.

You may wonder if they were so effective why I've been on several different ones. Quite simply, because I got better again and came off them. But the next time life got me down (crap marriage) I would need them to recover my mood.

I would wait until you back at home. I didn't get on well on this medication but for others it works very well. For me the first few days were bad. I couldn't drive as I didn't trust myself to control the car. I felt very spaced out on it. Maybe I should have persevered with it but I came off it. Everyone is different and react different to certain medications. I would try and enjoy your break away and then start again when you are back home and in your own surroundings with less pressure. Good Luck with it and hope it works for you x

Wait until your back from trip as takes few weeks for body to adjust, first few sets worse.

If it makes you feel sleepy then take it at night then drowsiness gone by morning. For me it disturbed my sleep so I took it first thing in morning.

TreeHuggerMum1 · 09/09/2023 16:44

What dose are you on?

Not weird! Think we all probably react differently. I'm ADHD and very sensitive to everything; don't drink, only tiny bit of caffeine in the mornings otherwise I'm jittery!

Sertraline really helps with my obsessive (usually negative) thoughts and zonks me out a bit, only mildly thought so can still function normally. Though if I had it in the morning, I'd probably be daydreaming and want to lie on the sofa all day rather than work!

As others have, I'd probably wait till back OP

confusedmum16 · 09/09/2023 23:09

Sorry just got round to going through replies now. I decided not to continue while on holiday but I will restart again on Monday morning when we leave :)

Anyone's who's been on this drug did it make you feel spaced out? My pupils dilated so much and my jaw was shaking, hope no one thought I was taking drugs because it honestly felt and looked like I was😂

What dose are you starting on? Side effects usually go after a couple of weeks.

Squarepegroundhole78 · 10/09/2023 09:45

If the side effects were really bad, you could speak to the GP about starting with a lower dose maybe?
I started on 50mg (now on 25mg) and the side effects were annoying for the first week or so (jaw clenching, 'echoing' yawns, spaced out a bit) but then they did all go away...

It's really helped me cope and get on an even keel when I was under a lot of stress (and grieving)
