Fluoxetine and weight?

Hello. I'm starting on fluoxetine for anxiety and am slightly apprehensive about reports of ppl gaining massive amounts of weight on it. My sister is on sertraline and has piled on two stone in six months. I believe they're in the same family of drugs.
Very interested in hearing of ppl's experience with this drug. In any event I need it so I will be taking it - but do worry.

I actually lost it - about a stone and a half in a year. For some people it can be a bit of an appetite suppressant I think - I certainly stopped comfort eating when it started to work.

For most people (not all, but most) weight change occurs because the drugs either increase your appetite or because the drugs make you feel happier/more relaxed and therefore able to eat more especially if you're the kind of person who doesn't eat much when they're going through a period of poor mental health. I've been on all sorts of meds over the years and gained and lost weight on all of them and it's always been because of how much I've eaten than anything else.

Weight gain that should have said. As PP says, some people lose on them if they end up eating less.

I actually lost half a stone in a matter of weeks when taking fluoxetine

I lost weight on it.

I was on fluxotine for years and stayed the same weight. Changed to sertraline in January and I’ve piled on almost three stone. No change in eating, no binging like I used to. The specialist I seen said sertraline would probably cause weight gain but at the time I really needed something else.

Oh my goodness. That's quite scary. And then brings its own problems. Did you come off it?

I’ve been on ADs for anxiety for about five weeks. I’ve lost almost a stone!

Am still on it, unfortunately I’ll probably be on ADs for life. I’ve tried everything going but nothing else works.

Which one? Fluoxetine?

I have been on sertraline for 6 years now (starting with PND) and never lost the baby weight despite all sorts of diets and workouts. A family member is on fluoxetine and has been eating ravenously.

I lost a few pounds on fluoxetine.
