Manic episode?

As far as i am aware i have never been diagnosed with bipolar but i did have it suggested to me by a doctor from my peri natal team when I said I wasn't sure what my exact diagnosis is. I have been diagnosed with GAD and episodic depression but I have never felt this really covered the extent of my experiences.

Anyway last night myself and my partner were sitting on the couch after getting our DC to bed. He told me I was "acting weird". He was very serious and has never said this to me before. I asked him to elaborate but he couldn't just that I was acting weird.

I have just finished my period and been through a rough patch of my daughter teething so very disrupted sleep. I also have started taking iron tablets as I have iron deficiency anemia and my energy levels are much better.

What I am wondering is how do you decipher between manic and just having more energy than usual? Like yesterday I napped with my daughter and after this I went on a cleaning frenzy. I was definitely a bit erratic lookijg back at it. Flitting from one thing to another without finishing anything. But I can't tell if this was manic or not. Just looking for others experiences of manic episode and what they look like? I can get very hyperactive, have always been this way. Have long questioned whether I could have ADHD. Thanks in advance!

Hi OP,
This doesn’t strike me as a manic episode just going by what you have written. Particularly as it was a very brief period of what sounds like hyperactivity, restlessness etc.
How are your thoughts? With mania thoughts can often be racing, tangential, very muddled. Speech will be similar. You mentioned jumping from one thing to another without finishing anything - was this all housework etc, or various things that you haven’t done before or for a long time?
Manic episodes last weeks usually and is often very debilitating, very little to no sleep, making unwise choices, sometimes spending excessively, sometimes feeling as though you have special powers and abilities.
You seem very rational now and are talking as though it was a one evening/day occurrence.
If you experience rapid changes in mood and behaviour have you considered emotional instability?

It’s not uncommon to experience what you’ve described particularly when sleep is disturbed so try not to worry.
I hope you’re able to get some answers :)
