Anyone had this reaction to duloxetine?

Hi, I was recently switched from duloxetine from sertraline, to help with some long standing back pain.
Started at 60mg 1 per day, had usual side effects, a bit of nausea etc but nothing too bad. After a few weeks no great improvement in mood so doctor recommended I double the dosage. I picked up my prescription and the tablets were smaller, in a different box (different brand?) Anyway my first day of double dose I felt horrendous, vomiting and diarrhoea. So we agreed to back to 60mg. Since then I suffer with stomach upset even on 60mg! Can anyone share their experience? Will be getting in touch with Dr to discuss but wondering if it's worth preserving or just throwing in the towel

I would never take Duloxetine again. I very nearly died from low sodium levels.
I'm on Mirtazapine now.

@patsy999 I have briefly tried mirtazapine but it made me extremely tired during the day. I didn't realise duloxetine could cause low sodium. What symptoms does that cause?

I've been on duloxetine for years and it doesn't do that to me. I do take omeprazole though which may hide those symptoms

I didn't get stomach issues on duloxetine but it just made me more depressed and odd. I did, however, have an awful reaction to vortioxetine which sounds like your reaction. It didn't help that I got noro in the first couple of weeks which made me tolerate it even less. My psychiatrist was off the view that you shouldn't have to tolerate nausea, vomiting etc when there are lots of other meds out there so I came off it pretty quickly.

I also recently was switched to mirtizapine 30mg how long have you been on it and any side effects?

patsy999 · 24/08/2023 05:17

I've been on it since November.
It's very sedating and i have also put on a stone and a half.

How lond to stabilise ? any side effects

patsy999 · 30/08/2023 14:25

It took me 2 to 4 weeks to stabilise. Side effects are weight gain, loss of orgasm and sleeping for 12 hours a day.

TomatoSandwiches · 30/08/2023 14:29

I take 120mg per day for neuropathy and haven't experienced this, I've lost 14lbs because it suppresses my appetite, am quite lethargic on it though.
Definitely let your GP know about the side affect, I think they have to report it to an authority if it is a rare reaction.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/08/2023 14:59

I've taken 120mg daily since it was marketed(1999?) with no side effects, but everyone reacts differently
I was previously on venlafaxine until it stopped working( both SNRI's)
There are many options available, so it's a case of trial and error to find the best for you
I'd say give it 4-6 weeks and then discuss trying another
There are likely new ones available now
