Hi all
I have been on fluoxetine for years but switching to this now, the fluoxetine probably stopped being effective a while ago.

Changed my life immeasurably. I had tried almost everything out there for hideous depression and I started taking this in November last year after a psychiatrist recommended it. I’ve gone from being mostly non-functioning to being able to do stuff. I still don’t lead a normal life by any stretch of the imagination but I am streets ahead of where I was in my ability to care for myself, engage with others, manage basic daily activities etc.

The only side effect I’ve had is an increase in sweating, which is pretty grim when it’s hot. But I’ll take that over the intense suicidal ideation I was experiencing any day and twice on Sundays.

I literally can’t sing the praises of this drug enough. It’s probably saved my life.

Thanks broccoli

sorry you had such a hard time though. Doctor mentioned sweating. But going online, the main report seemed to be nausea, which worries me.

Obviously I’m only a sample of one but I didn’t get any nausea, and I have terrible tummy issues (former anorexic) so if any side effects were likely for me I’d have thought it would be that.

Hi @Springcat

I couldn't tolerate it. I had really bizarre joint pain and it went on for ages - over a month I think.

First I woke up feeling as if I'd lifted heavy weights. Then it extended down my shoulders to my elbows to my wrists, and almost as if I had repetitive strain injury or something. Of course the GP told me it couldn't possibly be causing that 🙄

The leaflet made it very clear that joint pain was a potential issue.

The main concern the GP had - he said people experienced excessive sweating.

I took it in the few hot days we had last summer, but even those days, didn't have that problem.

I finally gave up on it because after it built up in my system, I had a run of a few days where I burst into tears within a couple of hours of taking it. It was complex because I wasn't in a good state but sometimes you can tell what's an emotional reaction and what is caused by a pill.

And I had been perfectly fine when I woke up in the morning on all those days.

I wouldn't let my one experience put you off. It is just one experience, obviously plenty of people take it and find it really helpful. It does work differently than other SSRIs.

I think the difference is in how it affects dopamine? My GP did say it was one of the lesser known medications.

I actually requested it, but I now can't remember why.

I can see I posted on here about nausea - no issues with that.

it might work for you as well as it has for others. Is there anything in particular that worries you?
