Trying to get help for a person in the UK having a mental health crisis. Hopefully they will be on their way to hospital shortly. if I get to the UK will I be able to see them? flights are such that I won't be in the vicinity until at least 9pm

NHS-run mental health services here in the UK are very poor (and sometimes non-existent). There is very little capacity and very little support available. It completely depends upon where they are, what the health issue is, and whether it's a private facility.

As a pp said that they might not be admitted immediately as there's a lack of beds in NHS hospitals. I took someone suicidal to A&E and they were sent home and told to wait for a phone call that would only come if they were deemed ill enough. No phone call ever came.

In case anyone reading this needs this information... police help was needed to get him to hospital. They left him there. Amazing friends/family were there with him but effectively left to check him in like any walk in patient. Due to his behaviour there however he was sectioned and had 24/7 police presence. The nhs is clearly stretched tight and they didn't have a MH bed for him and were unable to formally assess him for about 24 hours. I was able to be with him from my arrival until the assessment. I did not experience anything up to / including the a& e admission but all the interactions I had with both nhs and police staff were great and immensely supportive. I hope none of you ever have to experience anything like it.
