Warning: Rant ahead
A few months ago, I was asked by the pharmacy to contact my doctor’s office to order a repeat prescription. When I did, the receptionist told me that the medication I was looking for was not on my file. I asked what medication was, and was told it was an entirely different dosage and brand. I corrected this issue, and got my prescription as usual.
Today, I realised I had run out of my prescription and tried to call the practice for a repeat prescription. I couldn’t get through, so called the pharmacy and explained. The pharmacist told me they’d contact the practice on their individual line and try sort out an emergency supply, as it’s already quite late in the day. An hour later, pharmacist rang to say my doctor had advised I be cut off as “I was overdue a checkup for over a year.”
Except I’m not? I was in the practice a few months ago sorting out the mess up with my medication on my file?
I called the practice again and finally got through. The receptionist couldn’t understand the mixup as she remembers me, and remembers my medication. She has told me she will speak to the doctor and get back to me.
I’m already planning on filing a complaint in the morning, as this isn’t the first (or second!) time they’ve mishandled my prescription or wrongly recorded my medication. I’m also moving doctors.
But what can I do in the meantime if they won’t give me my medication, and can’t give me an appointment for another week? I’ve been on this medication for 8 years, and to suddenly stop would not be the best thing for my body.
