Does anyone take pregabalin for anxiety and how effective have you found it to be?

I was going to take them for a neurological condition and my specialist said that "if I had anxiety issues that it would cut through them like a hot knife through butter." In the end I was prescribed a different med as I needed something long term and I think pregablin can have issues weaning off if taken for many years.

I take it for periodic limb movement disorder and I don't see a difference regarding my anxiety but I think it's going to depend on the level of anxiety and what other issues you have as well

I work in mental health and gave seen amazing- transformative effects in some people.
in others it just doesn’t work and we don’t really understand why.
it can be taken long term but can be problematic to wean off- not for everyone and a slow tapering reduces the chances of this considerably.
I think for people who are significantly dis-abled by anxiety and have tried the ‘usual’ medications along with talking therapy its worth serious consideration.

I was put on it for neurological pain in my feet - a great painkiller. And it was only a few weeks in that I noticed my anxiety was much better since going on it, so I looked it up. I'd be on it for my pain anyway, so the anxiety effect is just a nice extra!

I’m recently prescribed this for an ankle fracture with nerve issues and noticed as soon as I upped from 25mg two times a day to 50mg twice a day my anxiety and other MH diagnosis’ were massively improved.

i mentioned this to the practice nurse, she was very pleased as she had discussed the up and down sides with the doctor before prescribing it to me and we have agreed to stay at 100mg per day with the view to increase, I’m feeling very positive about finally and accidentally finding a med that looks like it’s working with my anxiety and bpd meds.
I’m very hopeful

@Rescue2024 glad to hear that it has helped for you. I started on 25mg once a day a few weeks ago and was supposed to up to twice a day but have been too nervous so have stuck with once a day. I think I will start taking twice a day tomorrow with a view to increasing to 50mg twice a day.

@Rescue2024 yes I increased to 2 twice daily and then had an appointment with my psychiatrist who Increased it further to 3 twice daily. Haven't noticed a change with my anxiety yet but it's still early days.

Let’s hope they settle in well, I was very tearful yesterday but better today. I do think they have helped seeing as I’m on week 4 of no weight bearing on my broken foot so I’m a little stir crazy stuck in one room day and night!
