Hi,

looking for a bit of a handhold/ reassurance. I recently posted about my anxiety/ mental health taking a little dip in the pregnancy thread. I’m 26+4. Last week I Spoke with a lovely GP who advised sertraline and though reluctant, I know I need to get a handle on this now. I’ve started on 25mg and to up to 50mg after a week and I’ve only taken it for three evenings and I have to be honest my anxiety has completely spiked. I know it is to get worse before better and I was expecting it, but not on such a low dose and this quickly. I’ve been on it in the past and don’t remember it having this effect. Feel paralysed by anxiety today. Any positive experiences to share?

thanks for reading🤍

Usually I’d say you need to give that kind of medication time to work properly. But if it isn’t suiting you make sure you speak to your midwife/doctor about it if it’s making you worse and you’re pregnant it’s not worth the hassle. Hope all goes well x

Thanks @Shrillwaffle, I have an apt with my GP tomorrow morning and going to over how I’m feeling and hoping she confirms this is part of the process and hopefully will lift as the thought of starting all over again is giving me horrible dread. How are you?

Sertraline can make things worse before they start to get better. Best to give it 2-3 weeks.

I took it right through pregnancy twice and also while breastfeeding.

Hope you start to get better soon xx

Thanks @weegiemum, do you mind me asking what you took it for and did it help? I’m in the dark place at the minute questioning if I’ll ever feel better!
