Still really struggling after more than 4 months

I had been on a low dose AD (a tricyclic but equivalent of about 10mg prozac) and been very well for over a decade - but at the end of March had a horrible relapse.
Ended up off work for 3 months but things still very difficult.
I had panic / anxiety in the past but depression is very significant this time.
Increased the AD back up to therapeutic dose which has worked in the past but it just doesn't seem to be working in the same way this time.
The lows and complete lack of interest in the things I normally love are really frightening - and the panic is still very severe.
I'm doing all the self help things and have seen a counsellor but it came out of the blue without a specific reason.
I'm not sure what I'm asking really but I guess it's just support from anyone who didn't have straight forward recovery.

Sorry to hear you are still struggling. Has your doctor got a plan to get you out of this dip? Might a change in drugs help?

You will get through this xx

Thank you @chittyshittyohffs
The dr (psych) is on leave for another week and a half but can speak to them then.
It's the lows I'm really struggling with - I just feel like I've lost all of my normal feelings.
I'm scared that I've taken ADs for so long - even though often low doses - and they've altered something in my brain so I can't get well again.

Are you of an age where menopause may need looking in to?
I had horrible depression before starting hrt

kizziee · 04/08/2023 10:31

@LampsAndWatches yes I am - I'm two 1/2 years fully into menopause. I was ok mentally all through peri and for the first two years after last period.
I've been advised not to introduce hrt at the moment because everything so difficult and concerns about making it worse if I don't react well to the HRT but then look at it further down the line.
Did your depression start in peri or full menopause ?

I’m on long term Prozac and always had highs and lows with depression. I was peri when it really rocketed and they then added hrt gel and tablets on top of my Prozac and everything has settled down.

im also in the middle of emdr therapy, I’m really enjoying it and I would thoroughly recommend it to any of my friends.

@kizziee I'm in the relapse boat with you. I suffer with anxiety/OCD and secondary depression. It peaks and troughs and normally a couple of weeks or so of keeping things easy gets me back on the right track but I've had a big relapse this year and I've been off work since February.

Thank you @LampsAndWatches

@Ilovedogs1 I'm really sorry you are in the same position. Are you taking medication. I think I'm going to need to change mine which I'm really worried about.
