Hi

I have suffered from anxiety for many years and generally it's OK and I manage.

Recently I have been feeling dizzy when I am anxious and its starting to really affect me day to day.

Can anyone recommend any tips to try and alleviate it?

Many thanks

It's possibly your breathing so maybe some breathing exercises.

Very simple one just to start off: breathe in and out for the same amount of time (count to 2, 3 or 4 whilst breathing in, then the same number again whilst breathing out).

Good for relaxing - as above but breathe out for longer than you breathed in. Start with the same in/out count then make your out breath 1, 2 or 3 counts longer.

Complicated - alternate nostril breathing:
..put your forefinger on your forehead (just above the top of your nose)
..put your thumb against one nostril
..put the knuckle of your curled middle finger against the other nostril and press gently so that nostril is closed
..breathe in thru the open nostril then use your thumb to close it
..relax the finger that's against the other nostril and breathe out thru that one
..breathe in thru that same nostril then use your knuckle to close
..whilst you release your thumb to breathe out thru that nostril.

Basically you breathe in one side then out the other, then breathe in the 2nd side and out the 1st, then breathe in the 1st and out the 2nd, in the 2nd out the 1st. Or, put another way, once you've breathed out one side you breathe back in on that same side.

Try breathing exercises or meditation.
The app Insight Timer has loads of content around anxiety.
