I am shaking from my head to my stomach feels like I'm trembling insomnia panic rising blood feels like it runs cold can't stop spiralling

When stressful things happen this is my reaction

Currently have 3 pretty major stressful things going on and it's crippling me

I have sertraline an propanalol - they do help but when I go over the edge like this I really can't stand it

I know the feeling well and went to my GP for a low dose of Xanax. GPs are so hesitant to prescribe it which is ridiculous, I was at a point where I felt sick and was shaking from anxiety. It basically stops these types of reactions so you can function. I don’t take it every day, just occasionally when things get overwhelming.

Thanks both
I spoke to mental health nurse and she has prescribed sleeping tablet and changed to a slow release beta blocker
She's also signed me off for a week

Doesn't help that I'm in a suicide intervention training programme today and yesterday- maybe just too much for me to take at the moment

Hope your sleeping tablets and slow release propranolol help. I suffer like this occasionally and especially when I have had no sleep-am a chronic insomniac. I take Diazepam 5-10mg when needed. Very careful not to take it too much but it's been a life saver for me. I'm lucky to have an understanding GP who knows me. I've used it sensibly for years. It's so difficult to get prescribed these days.

The mental health nurse was good
I've slept for 2 nights with sleeping pill but just can't stop the physical shaking

I feel for you. Anxiety is the pits. Are you able to get outside and walk for a bit just to burn off some adrenaline?

gemini45 · 31/05/2023 21:49

Yes I did some 'real life' stuff today which was good I felt useful and almost normal although there is so much adrenaline pumping through my veins I'm far from normal

I know this doesn't last forever and I'll 'come down' a bit soon and things will relax .... I'm just realising how sensitive I am to anxiety as I would never really have labelled myself as a major sufferer before now

Looking back though I've had this on and off forever!
Used to think I was depressed

Bear in mind that stress is not a standalone entity; it's our emotional response to what's going on around us. Imagine you're in the eye of a tornado; all around you is chaos and problems whirling around but your actual space is calm and quiet.

You can choose which of the flying objects/problems you pluck out of the maelstrom and deal with one at a time. The ones which are not yours to deal with, or you do not have the capacity to deal with right now you leave alone.

A juggler looks impressive - coping with all those balls or spinning plates with ease. But remember, they are only holding one ball or spinning one pole at any one time. Ask them to do more and the whole lot will fail.
