Does anyone take HRT alongside their ADs

I know HRT is often suggested for menopausal anxiety / panic but it’s been a long term issue for me and I’ve been on low dose ADs for a number of years.
im now 2 yrs after my last period and unfortunately had a horrible relapse.
Its difficult to wade through all the menopause info because a lot of it seems pro HRT / anti ADs so would be useful to know if anyone has done both.

Hi, yes. I have been on Citalopram for about 2.5 years now, and started HRT just over a year ago. The HRT definitely helped, although I also gave up alcohol at about the same time so I’m not sure which had the bigger impact. I lowered my Citalopram dose from 20 to 10 about 6 months ago, and am planning to try to taper off completely soon

Yes, was on both, initially setraline 100mg, then started hrt. I’ve managed to taper off sertraline after 18 months, now just on hrt. My mood is good but my insomnia has come back with a vengeance unfortunately

Thanks for replying. So much of the menopause discussion focusses on the fact that for many women anti depressants shouldn’t be prescribed for peri / menopause - but that’s not necessarily the case for everyone.

I’ve been on sertraline since 2012, long before any meno stuff kicked in. I’ve just started HRT on top. There’s been no discussion about changing my ADs, but I’m not feeling much better for it so I’m going to discuss in my next review

Yep, citalopram and HRT. Never stopping the citalopram and need the HRT for night sweats/insomnia etc

Really useful to hear - thank you

I'm on both and my menopause specialist says it's fine and a completely normal combination

MithrilCostsMore · 17/05/2023 11:28

I'm on both. No issues here.

Have any of you noticed that the HRT has helped anxiety / depression or is it more for symptoms like hot flushes etc.
(I’m two years past my last period.)

Its the best of both worlds for me. Citalopram and HRT I feel pretty good.
I have CPTSD.
