I can't stand the rain

To quote the sublime Tina Turner I can't stand the rain, it's constant, it's driving me insane, I can't seem to get anything done, it's really affecting my mental state..every fucking day.

I do suffer with depression and have been medicated for 25 years but this is beyond my control. It was like it last year wasn't it.

Does anyone else feel like it, how can we cope with the perpetual bloody greyness...

The reason this country is so verdant and has such beautiful countryside, is because of the amount of rain we have. It’s glorious in the sunshine because the rain has made it look the way it does. That’s what I always remind myself. Lovely weather is just around the corner

Tbf that forecast shows cloudy spells interspersed with sunshine, and only light showers. It's not dark clouds and heavy rain day and night. A decent shower also means I don't have to water things in the garden.

Have you tried a sun lamp?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/05/2023 12:34

It is relentless this year tbf. I know a family who have cracked and are moving from London to Cyprus because they (well the mother anyway) just can't face any more endless months of rain.

It's bound to end soon though, and surely no hosepipe ban this year.

minipie · 12/05/2023 12:39

Where are you? Where I am (SE) it’s been mix of sun and rain the past few weeks, peeing down now but glorious this morning. If it’s like that where you are can you look at the weather forecast each morning and try to get out for a quick walk when it’s sunny? Makes a huge difference.

If it really has been endless weeks of rain and no sun where you are… is there any chance you can plan a move to a different area??

threecupsofteaminimum · 12/05/2023 12:43

Yes, thank you, I do try to keep telling myself this. It's just, I guess, I live in a first floor flat with no garden in not the prettiest part of London and the forecast has been rain for 5+days for weeks, I know I'm being silly and dramatic but it just depresses me so badly.

Moving isn't an option sadly, not until DS7 is a lot older and moved out anyway!

I’m not sure which forecast you’re looking at! I’m in London too and the forecast on the iphone weather app is for sun tomorrow, dry with a bit of sun on Sunday, rain Mon, dry Tues and sunny again Weds and Thurs. Not too bad!

minipie · 12/05/2023 12:48

It helps if you look at the daily hour by hour forecasts as there is often sun at some point even if the overall icon for the day is cloud or rain.

RoseslnTheHospital · 12/05/2023 12:49

It's not silly or dramatic, if it is depressing you. A glorious sunny day is something that raises the spirits of many people. You'd think that we'd all be used to the seasonal weather in the UK, but the rainy springs always come as a bit of a shock every year.

PrettyMaybug · 12/05/2023 12:50

Totally agree @threecupsofteaminimum It's boring now, and is getting on my nerves. Can't plan anything, as there's a 75% chance it will be bastard raining. Sick of it now. I want the SUMMER!

Biscuitea · 12/05/2023 12:52

I find it comforting so sorry you don’t SadWe’re all different. Sun will be around the corner I’m sure.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/05/2023 13:28

For those saying it is just the usual spring weather, it really is wetter. We had a dry February but other than that it has been rainier than expected for months now. Can't go on forever though!

The first column is average rainfall and the second is 2023.

I understand...the weather definitely affects my mental health and motivation to do things. I don't mind cold weather particularly but I need blue skys, brightness and sunshine. I cannot even explain just how much I hate grey skys...makes me want to crawl back to bed.
