I talk a lot. It has been said that I am never quiet. I have a loud voice, it carries, and while it's not a particularly nice voice, I like it and I miss it when it's gone.

And it's been gone since Thursday.

And I am a single parent, and my 4 year old doesn't listen at the best of times, and I am lonely because I can't use the phone, and when I went to toddlers this morning I felt like a right blasted numpty.

Fed up now

I feel your bain. have had recurrent sore throat since after christmas and although I haven't lost my voice it's doing my head in.

Have you been to gp?

colditz · 18/02/2008 14:51

No. There doesn't seem to be much point - he will tell me to drink plenty of fluids and rest my voice and I can't, how can you have 2 kids under 5 and not speak to them?

my sister had recurrent laryngitis last year and it took antibiotics to get rid of it.

Yuk. I hate antibiotics.

Thanks though for the warning.

It really is quite painful!

Hi Colditz

I had this as a child/teenager (often for weeks at a time) and just recently lost my voice for about a week - it's still not right. I too have got a loud voice normally - in fact I really enjoy singing. I have also got a chesty cough which is not usual for me.

So I do know how you feel. It's very difficult with the DCs and at work. Tho mine have gone on holiday with my Ex and his new DP this week so I am alone .

I think the only way to get it back is to rest the voice and no whispering either. I know its hard but has to be done.

Also having laryngitis is weird I find because I don't feel that ill in myself when I get it but def feel tireder than usual and also feel a fraud when I tell people I am off for voice rest (as I did last Wed and today) as if I'm not really ill.

When I lose my voice I take it as a sign that I am stressed and need to rest. It's a PITA isn't it?

Hope it gets better soon.

This is true, citylover, I am not ill, but I have a chesty itchy cough and I am very tired!
