Mirtazapine 15 to 30mg

I know it's quite individual but how did you find moving up a dose with mirtazapine, particularly 15 to 30mg? I've been on 15mg about a year I think after trying and not getting on with some other ADs. Thinking of increasing as I'm having more days not enjoying things I usually would, plus more anxiety.

I was on 30mg years ago but don't remember much of how I got on. Both times it's helped me cope with depression and anxiety but they are still there. I think I gained weight equally on the higher dose but interested to know whether others did.

Don't want to feel more spaced out or tired unless that's temporary as I adjust to new dose, but I suppose I can go back down if I feel too bad.

Thank you for reading.

Hi @HelloMist . I have been on Mirtazapine for 5 and a half years. I started off on 15mg, which really helped, but a couple of months in my sleep started going haywire again, so my GP upped it to 30mg. I didn’t notice any side effects from going up to 30mg - but I did notice a very dramatic improvement to my insomnia, anxiety and depression! 30mg has been a lifesaver for me and I’ve stayed on that dose ever since. My appetite was still big when I went up to 30mg (although I have found that settles down eventually with time), but it was no better or worse than on 15mg - I think the appetite is the same on all doses, to be honest. I am also much more alert during the day on 30mg - probably because it’s the dose that has helped me so much with getting a proper sleep at night! I hope it helps you too 😊

Hi OP, I've been on Mirtazapine for quite a few years now, started on 15mg then went up to 30mg and have now been on 45mg (the highest dose) for about three years. I didn't notice any negatives from going up either time - I've tried other ADs and have friends who are on others (eg Sertraline) and they have noticed being spaced out/overtired etc. Mirtazapine just makes me feel like a better, happier version of myself (and yes really helps with sleep!). I generally only have positive things to say about it.

The only possible side effect is slight weight gain but I don't know if that's actually due to the Mirtazapine or is a natural consequence of getting a bit older and being less active/grazing more throughout the day now that I WFH rather than walking into the office.

I found going from 15 to 30mg very beneficial, although I take it in two doses.
I take 7.5 before I sleep and the remaining 22.5 at about 2.30/3 am when I wake. It works so well for me, both in improving sleep and mood.
No noticeable weight gain or indeed increased hunger either.

I take 45g mirtazapine about two hours before I go to bed.
It's brilliant.
You'd be surprised how quickly your body accommodates it.

I take Mirtazapine, along with some other meds for Bipolar and anxiety. I found it made me quite drowsy for a a couple of weeks when the dose increased. But have no side effects now with a daily dose of 45mg.

Hi, thank you! These are encouraging. I've been reluctant to change but think it might be time to give it a try. I have a med review appointment coming up but might ask to increase after something we have booked in a few weeks, so I'm not adjusting to a new dose then.

Have only just tried one day of increased dose. I was so tired this morning after the school run that I slept again (which won't be possible normally). Vivid dreams both times. Hoping the heat is partly to blame and that I'll adjust quickly! This was 22.5mg, not 30 yet. I've been fine this afternoon/evening so far though.
