Sensitive to anxiety meds

Hi, I have had anxiety/panic for most of my life in various degrees. The last 6 mths or so have been very very bad and my doctor is trying me on meds. Problem is I seem to be really sensitive/intolerant of them!!

Recently tried Venlafaxine but terrible side effects - dizziness to the extent of not being able to drive, nausea, palpitations, shaking, feeling so spaced out etc. I stuck with it for 2 weeks but couldn’t do any more. Now on Escitalopram 5mg for last 3 wks - not as bad but still dizzy, spaced out, headaches and so tired. I tried upping it to 10mg and could hardly function!

In the past I’ve been on ones like Amitriptyline, Sertraline, Citalopram, Pregabalin all with terrible side effects - is anyone else the same and what can you take?

2mg Diazepam is the only thing that helps atm but I’ve only got a few left and doctor really reluctant to prescribe (I only take it once or twice a week if having a bad panic attack)

I have sensitivity to most meds. More likely the fillers but can take literally 1. Had really scary reaction to Prozac years ago. Was literally shaking in bed for hours. I had beta blockers with anxiety. I remember headaches initially but after that they helped. Know things have moved on now.
Anxiety is miserable. Hope you find something you can tolerate soon.

Thanks, my doctor won’t prescribe me beta-blockers due to my asthma but I think they might well help

I take quetiapine which has improved my anxiety so much. I haven’t had any side effects with them. Have you tried them?

No not tried that thanks

I'm starting my 5th week of citalopram. I'm so sensitive that I started on 2.5g and moved up ever so slowly. Am now on 10mg, which is considered half the regular dose. I'm still getting side effects and awful anxiety. I wish it would just go away :( thinking of you, anxiety is no fun
