Lamotrigine BPD- positive experience

Hope it’s okay to post but before I was researching this I saw a lot of TikTok’s which were really negative so I just wanted to share my experience.

I was diagnosed with BPD in November (known I’ve had it for years but this was just confirmation). I was prescribed lamotrigine and began taking it around the middle of February.

I’ve not had a full blown meltdown in over three weeks (I was having them at least once a week). I feel more settled, I am coping so much better with stressful situations and seeing things from a different point of view.

I am setting goals and sticking to them for more than a few days and dealing with things in a much calmer way. I still feel bumpy sometimes, I’m currently only on 25mg so I am considering upping it slightly.

I just wanted there to be a place where if someone was searching for a positive experience here it is 😊

Did you get these prescribed by a dr or a psychiatrist? I have a bpd diagnosis and have struggled for years, I regularly go to the local MHP and they recommend and refer me to see a psychiatrist but the referral is always knocked back due lack of service in the area, certain medications can only be prescribed by a psychiatrist unfortunately and I think lamictal could be one of them, I'm glad you are hopefully on a path to recovery

Yep I would say lamotrigine is usually prescribed by a specialist just because of the side effect profile it can have if you are unlucky. I had neurological side effects so it was hard but it also works well for others! X
